The Tendōkai Takes Shape

The Ronin Warriors franchise's modern successor just fleshed out its biggest threat. Anime Anime reported that three new voice actors are joining the Tendōkai — the celestial realm that emerged as cour 1's wildcard antagonist force — ahead of the show's July 7 return.

Tomoaki Maeno (White Blood Cell in Cells at Work!, Decim in Death Parade) takes on Gomei, a character Maeno describes as someone driven by deep conviction whose clashes with others come from genuine ideological friction. Aya Endo voices Shimei, a woman with snakes coiled around her body who, according to Endo, fights to protect something just as fiercely as the Troopers themselves. And Hiroshi Shirokuma rounds out the new additions as Gaimei — the faction's resident blusterer who tries to project strength but can't seem to earn his juniors' respect.

They join two heavyweights already established in cour 1: Maaya Sakamoto (Shinobu Oshino in Monogatari, Ciel Phantomhive in Black Butler) as the enigmatic Yashima no Sagume, and Takehito Koyasu (Dio Brando in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure) as Inmei, whose allegiance remains deliberately unclear. Koyasu teased as much in his comment: "Is he friend or foe? Expect mysteries upon mysteries."

Into the Demon Realm — Without Gai

The cour 2 key visual tells its own story. Four armored Troopers — Kaito, Musashi, Yamato, and Shion — stand resolute while Sagume peers at them from behind. Conspicuously absent is Gai, the protagonist voiced by Hiiro Ishibashi. The source confirms that three months have passed since Gai parted ways with the group after their victory over Rashinga.

The remaining Troopers have ventured into the Yōjakai — the demon realm — to protect the human world, where they'll face the Jūyūshi (Ten Warriors) once more. But the real curveball is the Tendōkai's intervention and what the source describes as an encounter with an unexpected figure. With the human realm, the demon realm, and now the celestial realm all in play, the scope of the conflict has expanded significantly from cour 1's already-packed storyline.

For those less familiar: Yoroi-Shinden Samurai Troopers is the official sequel to the 1988 Sunrise classic known internationally as Ronin Warriors. Directed by Yōichi Fujita (Gintama, Mr. Osomatsu) at Bandai Namco Filmworks' SUNRISE Studios, it reimagines the franchise in modern-day Shinjuku with a new generation of armored warriors. The first cour premiered on January 6, 2026, and made an immediate impression — "Samurai Troopers" and character name "Nasty" both trended on X during the premiere broadcast.

Fresh Battle Anthems

Dannie May takes over the opening theme with "BAD Idenshi" (BAD遺伝子, roughly "BAD Genes"). The group described the track as channeling adolescent rage, noting they were asked to capture "a spectacular parent-child fight" and built the song around the frustration of being just centimeters away from understanding someone yet feeling worlds apart.

Karanoa handles the ending theme, "Bakemon" (ばけもん, roughly "Monster"). Artist Yūdai wrote from the Troopers' perspective, reflecting on how impossible their burden would be to bear in real life — heroes whose struggles are far messier than any billboard version of courage.

Looking Ahead

Yoroi-Shinden Samurai Troopers cour 2 begins airing July 7, 2026 on TOKYO MX (Tuesdays at 11:30 PM), Kansai TV, and BS-11, with same-day streaming on U-NEXT, dAnime Store, and Anime Hōdai in Japan. International viewers can watch on Crunchyroll, which has been simulcasting the series since its January premiere.

The cour 2 main PV is available now on the show's official YouTube channel, offering a first look at the Tendōkai characters in action alongside the new theme songs. Blu-ray Box volumes 1 and 2 covering the first cour are also currently available.
