Yuichi Nakamura Steps Into the Kamunabi
Yuichi Nakamura (Satoru Gojo in Jujutsu Kaisen, Hawks in My Hero Academia) takes the role of Soshiro Azami, a sorcerer attached to the Kamunabi. Chihiro Rokuhira's existence has been kept hidden from the public, and Azami is one of the few people who know about him. The official character description credits him with overwhelming striking power and the physical strength to overrun opponents, making him one of the Kamunabi's standout fighters.
Nakamura says he approached Azami as a serious man with a dry streak, and that he paid attention to how the character balances against the small cast introduced so far. He expects that balance to pay off later, once the roster expands.
He also read ahead. While preparing for the audition he read the original manga, felt it carried something of recent years' "Jump spirit," and, in his words, "ended up reading every volume out so far." He singles out Azami as a realist set against the romantic Togo Shiba, who is voiced by Katsuyuki Konishi. Azami has feelings, Nakamura notes, but watches events from a half step back. Asked to sum up Kagurabachi in a single word, he picked 耀, meaning radiance.
The Story So Far
Kagurabachi is a sword-fighting action series. Chihiro Rokuhira is a boy training to follow his father Kunishige, a celebrated swordsmith, into the trade. A sorcerer organization called Hishaku tears that life apart and makes off with six enchanted blades powerful enough to decide a nation's fate. Chihiro is left in a far darker world with the seventh blade his father left behind, Enten, and he sets out on a path of revenge.
Takeru Hokazono's manga has run in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump since September 2023 and has passed 4 million copies in circulation including digital editions, according to Anime Anime. Volume 12 reached Japanese shelves on September 4, 2026.
Cypic Is Rolling the Cast Out One Visual at a Time
Tetsuya Takeuchi directs the adaptation at Cypic, the studio previously known as CygamesPictures, with Keigo Sasaki handling character design. Taihi Kimura voices Chihiro, Tomokazu Seki plays his father Kunishige, Katsuyuki Konishi plays Togo Shiba, Miku Ito plays Hinao, and Miyari Nemoto plays Char Kyonagi.
Every casting reveal so far has landed the same way: a character visual, a short character trailer on Shochiku's official anime YouTube channel, and a written comment from the actor. Azami's turn follows Hinao and Char Kyonagi in late August, Shiba in June, and Kunishige a week before that. With roughly six months to go before broadcast, the production still has time to introduce the rest of the Kamunabi and Hishaku.
Looking Ahead
Kagurabachi starts airing in Japan in April 2027. Crunchyroll will stream the series outside Japan, mainland China, North Korea, and South Korea, so most international viewers already have a confirmed home for it. No theme song artists, episode count, or exact premiere date inside the April window have been announced yet.
Readers who want to get ahead of the anime can start with the manga. Viz Media publishes Kagurabachi in English in print, and digital chapters run on Viz's Shonen Jump service and Shueisha's Manga Plus app. Anime Anime also reported in September that the second leg of the series' world tour is adding stops in Johannesburg and Melbourne, pushing the promotional campaign across all five inhabited continents ahead of the premiere.
