The Apothecary Diaries Anime Gets Season 3 and First-Ever Film
By Kyle Kawasaki

The Apothecary Diaries has announced both a third television season and the franchise's first theatrical film, revealed through a special two-year anniversary promotional video released on October 22, 2025.
The third season will premiere in October 2026 on Nippon TV, broadcast in split-cours format with the first cour beginning October 2026 and the second cour starting April 2027. Director Akifumi Fudesaka returns from Season 2 to helm the new season. The story shifts from the imperial rear palace to the common streets as Maomao and Jinshi face new trials including natural disaster omens, a mysterious shrine maiden, and Jinshi's responsibilities as an imperial prince.
The theatrical film is scheduled for December 2026 release and will feature a completely original story conceived by series creator Natsu Hyuuga. Norihiro Naganuma, who served as series composition director and chief director for Seasons 1 and 2 respectively, will direct the film.
In her official statement, author Natsu Hyuuga emphasized that the theatrical film represents her dedicated effort, describing it as "a completely new story that hasn't appeared in any online publication or book." Voice actress Aoi Yuuki, who plays protagonist Maomao, expressed her surprise and excitement, noting she thought the series might conclude after Season 2's beautiful finale.
The newly released super teaser visual features Maomao with a determined expression, accompanied by the tagline "Flickering in those eyes: an exquisite mystery." The two-year anniversary promotional video celebrates the series' journey from Season 1 through the emotional Season 2 finale, set to the theme songs that defined each season including "Hana ni Natte" by Ryokuoushoku Shakai and "Kusushiki" by Mrs. GREEN APPLE.
The Apothecary Diaries anime adaptation has become a phenomenal success since its October 2023 debut, with the franchise surpassing 40 million copies in circulation across its light novel and manga versions. Both Season 1 and Season 2 are currently available for streaming on major platforms.
