STUDIO4℃'s All You Need Is Kill Anime Gets January 2026 Theatrical Release

STUDIO4℃ has announced that its anime adaptation of "All You Need Is Kill" will hit Japanese theaters on January 9, 2026, with the release of a new trailer and key visual. The project was first announced in March 2025, with cast and theme song artist reveals following in June.

Based on Hiroshi Sakurazaka's 2004 sci-fi light novel published by Shueisha, the story is set in a near-future world threatened by invasion from unknown creatures. The protagonist becomes trapped in a time loop, dying and returning to the morning of the same day repeatedly, growing stronger with each iteration. The novel gained international recognition when it was adapted into a 2014 Hollywood live-action film starring Tom Cruise as "Edge of Tomorrow."

STUDIO4℃, known for acclaimed works like "Children of the Sea" (海獣の子供) and "ChaO," brings a new perspective to the anime adaptation by centering the story on Rita, a volunteer staff member, rather than the original protagonist Keiji Kiriya. Newcomer Ai Mikami makes her voice acting debut as Rita.

The newly released trailer showcases Rita trapped in a time loop following the invasion of mysterious creatures called "Darol." Using her accumulated experience and memories as weapons, she confronts the cruel reality of her situation. Rita eventually encounters Keiji (voiced by Natsuki Hanae), who is also trapped in the loop, and they develop a bond of trust. However, they face the harsh truth that "only one can survive." The trailer also features the first reveals of voices for Shasta (Kana Hanazawa), Rachel (Hikorohii), and Yonabaru (Mou Chugakusei), along with 19-year-old singer-songwriter AKASAKI's first anime theme song, "Tsuretette" (連れてって).

The film will make its international festival debut, having been selected for the Official Selection at Spain's Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival (where it's nominated for the Animaʼt Award) and premiered at New York Comic Con 2025 on October 10. Upcoming festival appearances include Bucheon International Animation Festival (South Korea), Animation is Film Festival (USA), San Sebastian Fantasy Festival (Spain), Scotland Loves Anime Festival (UK), Leeds International Film Festival (UK), and Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival (Taiwan).

The Japanese theatrical release will be limited to 10 theaters nationwide, including Sapporo Cinema Frontier, T-Joy Emiterasu Tokorozawa, Shinjuku Wald 9, T-Joy PRINCE Shinagawa, Yokohama Burg 13, Midland Square Cinema (Nagoya), T-Joy Kyoto, T-Joy Umeda (Osaka), Hiroshima Wald 11, and T-Joy Hakata (Fukuoka).
